Hallyday has sold in excess of 100 million records |
Veteran French rock star Johnny Hallyday has been admitted to hospital in the US with a post-operative infection, his spokesman has said.
The 66-year-old, who had surgery in Paris to correct a slipped disc two weeks ago, is being monitored in a clinic in Los Angeles.
His publicist in Paris added that the singer was stable and expected to be discharged in the next week.
Hallyday is a huge star in France but relatively unknown in other countries.
The rock star - whose real name is Jean-Philippe Smet - is estimated to have sold in excess of 100 million records.
In 2007, he announced his intention to retire from live performing.
His farewell set of performances, called Tour 66 in reference to his age, are due to continue into next year.
