Frances Bean, the daughter of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain has been placed under the temporary guardianship of her grandmother, according to court papers.
Control of the 17-year-old has been granted to the late Nirvana singer's mother Wendy O'Connor and his sister Kimberly Dawn Cobain.
Court documents do not mention Love or give a reason for the guardianship.
Love previously lost custody of Frances Bean in 2003 after a drug overdose but regained custody in 2005.
The court order, which runs until February, does not grant Cobain's mother and sister control over a trust established by the singer - who killed himself in 1994 - for his daughter.
In March, 44-year-old Love was sued by a fashion designer over messages she posted on the internet.
Dawn Simorangkir claimed Love made several "menacing and disturbing" statements about her on the singer's Twitter and MySpace pages.
